The Met Gala is arguably one of the most iconic annual events in the world. While COVID-19 forced its cancellation last year, the celebrity-studded event returned to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York this year. Alongside several stars, seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton made an appearance at the event yesterday.

Along with wearing a unique costume, the Briton shared the spotlight with various celebrities. Some of those celebrities included American sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson and Canadian model Winnie Harlow.

In recent years, the Met Gala often took place in the first week of May. However, COVID-19 forced its postponement to September 13. Over the years, the event forged a reputation for celebrities donning some of the most stunning attires.

The theme of this year’s Met Gala was “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion.” Sporting an outfit designed by Kenneth Nicholson, Hamilton arrived in New York for the iconic event. During his time in the Met, he shared moments with Richardson and British Olympian Miles Chamley-Watson.

Over the years, Hamilton has sported some of the most eye-catching outfits in the Met Gala. However, the Briton elected to wear a black tuxedo this time, with a calf-length white lace shirt.

During the event, he also featured in a group photo alongside an illustrious list of stars. The photo included Richardson, Chamley-Watson, and American singer Kehlani, among others.

Another photo that did the rounds on social media was the Briton alongside Winnie Harlow. A few years ago, the pair were rumored to be dating, which got fans buzzing when they saw the Canadian model feature alongside the 36-year-old yesterday.

Met Gala appearance comes days after stunning crash in Monza

During this past weekend, the defending world champion suffered a heavy crash in the Italian Grand Prix. As he went wheel-to-wheel with title rival Max Verstappen into Turn 1, the pair came in contact. The impact sent Verstappen’s car on top of Hamilton’s, who escaped from the crash with just a sore neck.

The fact that Hamilton made it to this year’s Met Gala less than 48 hours after the crash is quite impressive. However, his focus will now shift to the Russian Grand Prix, which is two weeks away. Trailing Verstappen by five points, he will look to bounce back to winning ways in Sochi on September 26.
