The spirit of the individual is determined by his dominating thought habits. Lewis Hamilton‘s supremacy and domination at Mercedes are being questioned as George Russell gets up to speed at the German team. A Former Formula 1 driver made comments about Hamilton being frustrated. The Former driver suggests Lewis’ 16-year-old record might be on the verge of breaking as he speaks highly of George Russell.
George Russell’s performance last year came as a shock to everyone at Mercedes, although be it a good one. While Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton were busy figuring out the solution to solving the porpoising problem, Russell was getting a feel for the W13 and finding his feet with the car and the team. Now that he has settled in, many look at him as a better fit for the Mercedes. The 25-year-old has out-qualified Lewis Hamilton at the three races held so far.
Lewis Hamilton does look concerned about the lack of his pace, or be it, the abundance of George’s. Johnny Herbert suggested during a recent podcast how Russell has grown stronger over the years. Herbert explained how the seven-time world champion will be frustrated at the fact that he is not able to beat the 25-year-old despite having 16 years of F1 experience under his belt. The Former further suggested that the times are changing and the younger generation are getting stronger and taking over the ones left by the last generation.

Johnny Herbert during the Lift the Lid podcast said, “The story is that they’re not competitive, but George is getting stronger and stronger. Lewis, as a human, he will always be frustrated that he’s still not beating him every time he goes on the track like he’s used to. It’s a totally different scenario and there’s a changing of the guard at this present time, with the younger generation getting stronger and stronger – Max [Verstappen], for example.” Further adding, “That’s the thing that Lewis will always look at and think, ‘This guy is a threat. This guy is difficult’.”
Lewis Hamilton’s 16-year-old record of being the N0.1 driver might come under threat if George Russell keeps performing the same way. However, Hamilton is known for stepping it up when the car is competitive enough for challenging for the title. Will the 38-year-old be able to beat Russell in a more competitive car?

Many F1 pundits and Former F1 drivers, including Hamilton’s nemesis Nico Rosberg, explained how the seven-time world champion step up his game by many multitudes when a championship seems to be in sight. Johnny Herbert suggests that if Mercedes is able to find a second of performance from its W14, then we’ll be witnessing a whole different Lewis Hamilton.
According to mirror.co.uk, Johnny Herbert said, “You can’t rule out Lewis, for sure, because if they suddenly find the right ingredients for this car to go a second per lap faster, for example, then he will get to that level very easily because that’s what he does.”
