Scuderia Ferrari are one team that F1 fans will be looking forward to in the 2021 season. After a miserable campaign last year, the idea is to step up performance levels and emerge stronger.
Changes on the 2021 challenger and drivers’ lineup have long been confirmed. But seemingly, a shuffle in personnel roles and responsibilities are also internally expected come March 28 in Bahrain.
Respected Italian F1 insider Leo Turrini believes that incumbent team principal, Mattia Binotto, will likely spend time away from Grand Prix racing this year, which will allow the likes of Laurent Mekies and Inaki Rueda to take up more duties on the pitwall.

Laurent Mekies has previously acted as a team principal in the 2020 F1 season
He stated in his report, “Mattia Binotto has already made it known that he will be less present on the track. This is motivated by the need to follow the technical development “at home”, with projection on the mythical project of 2022.” (translated via Google Translate)

The 2020 F1 season saw Binotto spend more time back at the team’s factory site in Maranello. In his stead, Mekies led the squad for three Grand Prix weekends, and, safe to say, had worked out decently for Ferrari.
“This means that, in the paddock, the Frenchman Laurent Mekies will not infrequently rule the Red things. It is no coincidence that he has already diverted the duties of sports director to the Spaniard Rueda, in short, attention to sporting regulations,” concluded Turrini.
Ferrari will challenge for P3 in the Constructors’ Standings this campaign
While the team structure might face a revamp, the ambition across the team remains the same for everyone. Ferrari definitely want to bounce back, at least in competitive comparison to their midfield rivals.

In so many races, both Leclerc and Vettel found themselves getting into good positions and creating getaways. But eventually, a lack of horsepower issue saw them fall behind in the race to achieve P3.
