“So it’s gonna be forever? Or is it gonna go down in flames?” sang Taylor Swift, who has been linked to the bad boy of the Formula 1 world because of a baseless rumor. And while we did think the rumor will go down in flames soon enough because of the lack of veracity, apparently I believe it is “gonna be [here] forever” as the F1 community is having so much fun with it that it has come to a point where fans are calling it cringe. The latest to join the bandwagon is Sky F1 commentator David Croft, also known as Crofty, who has been asked to be less of a Swiftie and to leave the F1 star alone.

If you thought Sergio Perez being linked to Kim Kardashian was the most absurd thing ever, the two once did share a platform together. And that is where the Fernando Alonso-Taylor link-up wins the absurdity race. A cheeky Fernando Alonso did fan the flames when he smiled and winked, saying he had already responded to those rumors, but the commentary from yesterday is hands down a different level of dedication for this conjecture.

ESPN posted a compilation of Crofty and his puns. It began with his saying, “What a ‘Swift’ drive Fernando Alonso, well maybe that is Alonso’s ‘Style’ and maybe, in the end, he’d say, ‘would’ve, could’ve, should’ve’.” This didn’t stop here are further references, including Fernando’s fast driving being compared to ‘Getaway Car’. In another instance when Nando was caught in traffic the commentator said, that it may cause some, ‘Bad Blood’ and while this was still not enough references towards looking for ‘Blank Space’ and ‘Don’t Blame Me’ were laid out as toppings to the Miss Americana dish that was being laid out.

Fans go berserk with Taylor Swift references being thrown Fernando Alonso’s way

“I can make the bad guys good for a weekend,” were Taylor Swift’s words. But in a situation that appears to be quite the contrary, the F1 community becomes “bad” for a weekend, especially if that is a race weekend. And the newest bad boy taking digs at Alonso is Crofty.
