The new season of Formula 1 has started in a blistering fashion. Although the fans are excited to see more racing action in 2022, last season’s thrilling battle between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen will live long in the memories. Verstappen came out on top after a controversial end to the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

The decisions taken by Michael Masi are still debated heavily among the fans. Many feel that Lewis Hamilton was unfortunate in losing out his 8th Championship. The 2021 season was a success for Verstappen as he clinched his first World Championship. Ahead of the new season, he signed a new contract with Red Bull keeping him until 2028. However, the start to the 2022 season has been nothing short of disappointing for the Dutchman.

He is currently sitting 6th in the driver’s standings and is already 46 points behind Leclerc. The Red Bull driver admits catching the Monegasque will be a tough job. He said, “We are already so far down in the championship that from now onwards basically you first need to be faster than them (Ferrari), which we’re not, and zero problems with the car which we also don’t have.”

Verstappen has already had 2 DNF results, the same tally he had in total last year. The reliability issues with the car have not helped him, and he will hope the team can turnaround the things.
