Las Vegas GP All Set to Break 38-Year F1 Spree Amidst 2023 Return

Formula One announced the addition of the Las Vegas GP to the 2023 F1 calendar. But the race in the city of Nevada will be a Saturday race instead of a traditional Sunday race. However, it won’t be the first Saturday race.

The Las Vegas GP would take place on Saturday to suit the locals. However, most of the world will get to enjoy the race on an early Sunday. Amid all this, many F1 fans are wondering if this is the first time a race is to be held on any other day other than Sunday. But in the past, there have been races on other days and there have been 58 races on Saturday.

An F1 race on Saturday would take place after 38-years. The 1985 South African GP was the last Saturday race and Nigel Mansell won the race, making him the last man to win a Saturday race. Also, the first F1 race in Silverstone in 1950 also took place on a Saturday. Further, the British GP used to be a Saturday race until 1977. But F1 again hosted the British GP on Saturday in 1979, 81, and 83. Further, the last two F1 races in Vegas, also known as Caesar Palace GP, were Saturday races.

Nevada Governor expects Las Vegas GP to be a hit

Las Vegas is a world-famous city, especially known for its nightlife. As the city sparkles in the night with all the neon lights everywhere. Now, F1 cars would cruise in the Las Vegas circuit at a night race on Saturday next season. The drivers would pass by world-famous restaurants and casinos in the city.

F1 and the local authorities speculate the Saturday F1 night race would be an enormous hit. Also, Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak expects the Las Vegas GP to boost the economy of the city. Undoubtedly, F1 would invite more crowds to Las Vegas, as it is one of the most famous motorsports.

Sisolak stated, “We don’t normally have a press conference at 7:30 pm at night, but this is unusual. We know the economic impact that F1 is going to have on this community is enormous.”

The Las Vegas circuit is 3.8 miles long and features long stretches and many high-speed corners. So, the cars might go up to 210 mph for the duration of 50 laps. However, the Saturday night race in Vegas is still far away. For now, F1 fans can only wait for the 2023 Las Vegas GP and look forward to the newest addition to the F1 calendar for this year, the Miami Grand Prix.
