Oscar Piastri’s Formula 1 career has gotten off to a brilliant start! Although rejecting Alpine’s contract has landed him a drive in the now speedy MCL60, he’s also gotten more than he bargained for in the form of his teammate, Lando Norris. However, the rookie has been able to keep up with Alonso’s Karting Champion, sparking some tension behind the scenes!
But the Papaya Army has quickly moved on from the Honey Badger to their new favorite Australian, and it looks like Norris is moving in the same direction. The two have made frequent appearances on McLaren‘s YouTube. Whether it’s taking a lie detector challenge or decorating the most beautiful cakes, Piastri and Norris are as competitive behind the reel as they are behind the wheel!

As their battle in McLaren’s YouTube challenges continues to heat up, we find the duo going up against each other in a game Mclaren called the ‘House of Cards’. Confused about what the challenge is? Piastri’s got us covered! The Australian laid down the ground rules, “Every time our house falls over we have to put on a prop from our penalty bins beside us. But practice runs have not been successful.”
The Papaya boys weren’t even thirty seconds into the video when Norris just couldn’t comprehend how to stack the cards to build a house, “It’s Impossible!” – with Piastri watching closely, the Briton was one point down! According to the rules, Norris now had to pull out a prop from the forfeit bin, and out came a black fedora. Still baffled by how people do this, Piastri was next to lose out and pulled out a rather shiny hat for himself.
But the fun didn’t stop there! Now that the hats were on, it was time for some rubber gloves. This is when Norris was struck with an idea so bright that only he could’ve thought of it! “I feel like we’ve been going about it all wrong, do you know why? Cus we’re not using common sense!” – a puzzled Piastri tried to understand Norris’ architectural brilliance. “How do you build stuff? Squares!” – Norris says as the camera zooms in on his cards slipping!
On the other hand, Oscar Piastri outclassed Lando Norris by using his glove as a base to prevent the cards from slipping. Smart, right? The answer would come just a second later as Piastri’s cards had the same outcome as his Brazilian GP result. But Piastri’s perseverance paid off, and the Australian took his Brazilian revenge.

While the fans can’t stop getting enough of Piastri and Norris’ shenanigans off-track, the tide keeps changing when it comes to their on-track rivalry.
Could Oscar Piastri outclass Lando Norris in 2024?
“First win – earlier than mine” – After ironically Oscar Piastri won McLaren’s first ‘race’ since Daniel Ricciardo’s outing at Monza in 2021, Lando Norris was feeling the weight of not one but two Australian teammates. Although Ricciardo struggled against the car and Norris for much of the year, the story is different when we talk about Oscar Piastri.

Although Piastri is way behind Norris in the driver’s standings, the reason behind that is not Piastri’s pace, but the fact that McLaren had adopted a ‘B Car’ strategy similar to Red Bull. This meant that whilst Norris had the MCL60’s much-needed upgrades early, Piastri had to wait until the Dutch GP for the update package. Which is exactly when the battles between Norris and Piastri began to heat up.
However, Lando Norris has not been one to back down either, as he sealed a mega weekend at the Brazilian GP, finishing P2 behind Max Verstappen. It looks like whenever one of the McLaren drivers has a tough day, the other is ready to pounce. Whilst this has created some great results for the Papaya Army, no team rivalries are without their drawbacks. While the Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri rivalry is still in its nascent stages, they will be starting off on better footing for the 2024 season.
