After placing third in the constructor’s championship in 2020, McLaren struggled for the next two seasons, making the season 2023 a highly anticipated one. The team with the newly formed pairing was disappointed since both of their pilots were going through some of the roughest times.

At Miami, where the team was merely Faster Than AlphaTauri, the awful campaign got even worse. The qualifying session for both team pilots was terrible, and the race itself got much worse, with Norris and Oscar Piastri finishing at P17 and P19, respectively.

Since Norris’ contract expires in 2025, he is committed to the team for the next two years, though it appears likely that he will receive bids from some of the best teams. For instance, both of Prancing Horse’s drivers are only contractually obligated to the team through 2024.

Speaking on the Sky Sports F1 Podcast, two well-known F1 figures Karun Chandhok and Martin Brundle debated whether Lando Norris ought to replace Carlos Sainz as the other Scuderia driver.

Replying to Chandhok’s question, “Do you think Lando should talk to Ferrari? You know, Carlos isn’t having a great time. At what point would you start to get nervous if you were Lando?”

To this, Brundle responded, thinking that the Briton might be forced to change course if things didn’t improve, ” In that case, you want reassurance. But yes, Lando will look after the teams around him. He has to do that but it’s up to the contracts and the [FIA] Contract Recognition Board.”

Later the Briton added, “It’s nice that a lot of people believe that I should have an opportunity to be able to do better than what I’m doing now, or fighting for higher positions that aren’t what I’m fighting for now.
