2022 was a tough year for McLaren after what they achieved the previous year. Not only did they fail to retain the 4th spot in the constructors’ standings, but they could not manage a win as well. However, there was a podium finish for Lando Norris, which he feels was not something to be proud of for the team.

Lando Norris for a second straight year delivered the majority of points for McLaren. However, that wasn’t enough to keep the threat from Alpine away. Moreover, the car lacked the pace to pose any challenge to the top three teams. The team’s performance throughout the season has led the Briton to believe the P3 finish in Imola was a lucky one.
Autosport quoted Lando Norris saying, “A podium always means something. It means something to me, means something to the team. But one isn’t enough.”
“One is like, we got lucky, and all of this stuff. You want to feel like you deserve to be there every time and we deserved to be there for sure. We weren’t quick enough to be there. We were kind of way ahead of where we deserve to be.”
He continued, “But yeah, one time isn’t enough for me. It’s not a good enough job by the whole team.”
Lando joined McLaren in 2019 after an impressive run in the feeder series. The Woking-based team is the only constructor he has ever been with, in his 4-year career in F1. Despite a disappointing season, he believes they will pull through.
Lando Norris shows faith in McLaren
Lando Norris is currently in a long-term contract with McLaren that will run until the end of 2025. He maintains it’s the team’s straightforward attitude that he likes. Speaking after the conclusion of the 2022 season in Abu Dhabi with Sky Sports, he said he remains hopeful for the future.

Lando expressed, “It’s just faith, it’s just honesty – that’s the main thing I need. I’m not a guy who likes BS or likes people trying to make me happy, I like people just being honest.”
“I have faith in McLaren, I have faith in the guys I work with, the whole team. Time will tell. You can never be 100 percent certain where you’re going to be, but you can have a good shot at it.”
