The most anticipated 2022 season of Formula One is about to get underway. The teams are ready to unleash their cars this week after the 3-day testing period in Bahrain. Experts and fans consider Ferrari and Red Bull as favorites, but Mercedes and McLaren are not far behind. However, Lando Norris believes that it’s the former two teams that will compete for the championship.

The last day of testing saw Max Verstappen finishing first with Charles Leclerc second. And that showed why Norris, like others, feels that Red Bull and Ferrari will battle for the main honors this season. The McLaren driver downplayed his team’s potential, but will hope the team from Woking can compete for the top spot.

Lando Norris believes Red Bull is the strong favorite going into the season, with Ferrari close behind them. Interestingly, the Milton Keynes-based team included an update to the car that saw Verstappen take the first position on the last of the testing. Although the Barcelona testing did not grab the headlines for the Bulls, the Bahrain one surely did.

Ferrari themselves had an impressive testing. Mattia Binotto and his drivers believe the car is ready to compete regularly for race victories. The Italian also suggested that Ferrari will compete for the pole position in the Bahrain GP. However, they downplayed their favorites tag and feel that Red Bull and Mercedes will be right on track for the World Championship.

Speaking on his thoughts about who will take the crown this season, Norris said, “I would go with Red Bull at the minute but Ferrari are definitely the closest after that. They are downplaying themselves massively, as they would. But consistently in every single run they’ve done since the first lap in [the first test in] Barcelona, they’ve been basically at the top.”

McLaren endured a tough session in Bahrain with Daniel Ricciardo out with Covid. However, the Australian has returned, which is a timely boost for them. They will hope to remain in the mix to win the championship.
