Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo have developed a wonderful working relationship at McLaren. There were a lot of expectations from the duo when Daniel joined the team from Renault in 2021. Both of them worked on their relationship and took the team to the recent highest of highs when they finished 1-2 at Monza.

While looking back at his Instagram posts, it shocked Norris that over 1 million people liked his picture of drinking a shoey at Monza’s podium. The British driver explained why he was drinking champagne from the shoe and why he regrets the event.

” Oh… it was disgusting. But I made a bet with Daniel at the beginning of the season if we were on the podium together. It never would be done again,” said Norris.

Lando Norris admits he was disappointed with P2 at Monza

Norris finished P2 behind his teammate at the Italian Grand Prix in 2021. As reported by Formula1.com, he mentioned that there was a little bit of disappointment from his end as he did not go for the win.

But in the end, he mentioned he was happy to share such a moment with the team at the podium.

“I would have loved to go for the win. But our first and second, I think I’m just as happy with. The feeling I get for the team is the priority over my own feeling in a way,” said Lando.

“I’m here for many more years, I hope, especially with McLaren and the whole team, so I feel like I still have an opportunity in the future to try and go for it. But in this moment and instance, I was happy just staying where I was,” added the McLaren driver.

It is very mature for the 22-year-old to recognize the significance of the result for the team. He ignored his own intentions and desires to prioritize a very important achievement for McLaren.

But it would have been interesting to see if he will be allowed to race with Daniel if a similar Monza situation comes up in 2022. Would he have won the 2021 Italian GP? We will never know, but it was wonderful to see the whole team in such good spirits on that day in Monza.
