There were a lot of incidents that took place during the Canadian Grand Prix and Sergio Perez’s crash was the most controversial. The Mexican driver lost control during the 53rd lap on turn 6, where he ended up in the wall, before driving the damaged car into the pits. The unsafe driving was penalized with a €25,000 ($26,900) fine and a 3-point grid penalty in Spain. Although the unsafe driving was noticed by everyone, one detail was missed, until Lando Norris pointed it out.
After the race ended, Lando Norris watched the replay of Sergio Perez losing control of his car, and that reminded him of an event from the 2011 Canadian Grand Prix. Apparently, Sergio Perez is not the only Red Bull driver who has suffered due to that turn in the rain. While the world was snoozing on the thought, Norris’ ultra-intuitiveness kicked in as he identified that Perez drifted off where Sebastian Vettel did when he lost the race to Jenson Button.

It’s no secret that you need to be quick when you are in Formula 1 and after the Canadian GP, Norris showed that his speed is not limited to cars. While taking a bit of rest in the cooldown room, the podium finishers were looking at the race highlights. The second Sergio Perez’s car drifted off on turn 6, and Norris exclaimed, “Oh! Seb Vettel!”

Watching a Red Bull lose control on the turn reminded the McLaren driver of how Sebastian Vettel lost control of his car while racing Jenson Button on the same turn back in 2011. The incident occurred on the last lap of the race, giving Button the lead to win the Grand Prix.
Although Vettel went on to win the world championship that year, that turn made the 2011 Canadian Grand Prix hard to forget for Lando Norris. While many might have overlooked that moment, many F1 drivers have extensive knowledge of each event at each turn in almost every race. However, despite his sharpness, Norris missed the win by +3.879s. He finished P2, but that’s a loss once you get your first win and Andrea Stella takes the blame for this one.

What did Andrea Stella say about McLaren not winning the Canadian Grand Prix?
After the Canadian Grand Prix, Andrea Stella came forth to talk about what went wrong in the strategy that cost the team and Norris the race. Norris was comfortably in the lead, and a safety car ruined that for him. But the bigger issue was the misplanning from his team that made him have an incorrect pitstop where he lost the lead to Verstappen.
After watching how close the race was, Stella stated, “We could have won. Certainly, like it played to us in Miami, and the Safety Car didn’t help. He was 2 seconds faster than everyone. He was late at the last corner and that meant we took the pitstop on the second lap around and lost the position.” The team knows that they have the pace to fight Red Bull; however, it was their mismanagement that led to the loss of Norrs’ second Grand Prix victory.
