Lewis Hamilton put on a masterclass in overtaking in the Sprint qualifying. The seven-time world champion overtook 15 cars in 24 laps to showcase his skills. The last overtake on Lando Norris was probably the best of the lot, as he lunged at the last moment to pass the young Brit.

Norris, too, was impressed by the performance of his countryman. The McLaren driver referenced the superior talent of Lewis Hamilton and mentioned that he was on another level.

In his post-race interview with Sky Sports, Norris suggested that the Mercedes driver should drive on three wheels.

“If he has gone from last to fifth in 24 laps, then he should have three wheels on his car or something to make it a little bit harder for him. He’s in a different league compared to us,” said the McLaren driver.

The Brit started the session in P7 after Hamilton‘s disqualification. He started on the medium tires and got a good start as he passed Gasly. He then passed Leclerc to move up to P5 but could not hold on to the position as Lewis overtook him on the last lap.

“A good day for us with two positions gained. One on a very important competitor, which is the Ferrari, and one on the AlphaTauri, so we’ve given ourselves the best opportunity to score some big points tomorrow.

“There were some positives and negatives from today in terms of how the car was and how confident I was pushing the car. We’ll try to make improvements overnight and see if we can come out even stronger tomorrow.

“We did everything we could. Even though we didn’t quite have the pace of the Ferraris, we still managed to get ahead of one of them. We’ll try even harder tomorrow,” said Norris.

The McLaren driver will start the race in P5 after Lewis’ penalty. He would hope to get another good start and challenge for the podium and get as many points as possible for the team.
