Toto Wolff and Co were patient as they decided to bring the whole new upgrade altogether at Imola rather than in parts. However, McLaren was very eager as they were arguably the slowest car. Now the British team is in a fix and explained how they will figure the problem out. Although the prior eagerness means Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri will have to wait a little longer. Let’s see what’s panning out at McLaren.

Not able to meet the expectations, McLaren’s 2023 season has only been getting worse race by race. Major upgrades succeeded the shambolic performance at the first three races in Baku. While the upgrades were ‘McLaren’s start of the season’, they did not work as expected with Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri finishing P17 and P19 at Miami.

Nevertheless, McLaren now looks past this disaster as they plan on bringing new upgrades in the upcoming races, which further delays the F1 recovery road. Andrea Stella explained that the upgrades will surely be coming before the summer break. The new upgrades will be coming across British and Canadian GP. Stella ended by explaining how the Baku upgrade focused on the floor, but the data reveals that it needs a redesign. Austria will be avoided as the sprint weekend gets hectic and teams don’t have time to test the new upgrades.

According to Speedcafe.com, Andrea Stella said, “It will definitely be before the summer break, and we are distributing these upgrades across Canada and Britain. We will be avoiding Austria because it’s a sprint event, and given the size of the package, we are not confident of doing it there. Yes, we did it in Baku because it was just the floor, but now there’s more redesign involved, and the (second) floor we will delay until Britain.”

Miami was like the loudest wake-up call one can give. McLaren faced and saw the reality of the upgrade and performance in Miami. However, Stella ensures that the team is still pushing as hard as they can and giving 100%. While the lows of Miami don’t change the effort, it does change where the effort needs to be focused. The problems need to be found and solved, and that’s where the focus is.

According to speedcafe.com, Andrea Stella while talking about the lows of Miami’s affected effort and focus, said, “does not change the rate of development.” He added, “It just helps us in focusing on some conditions in which to develop our car with CFD and in the wind tunnel, like you have to give more weight and more emphasis to these conditions. So the rate is always pushing 100% but redirected.”
