In a season that started with everyone believing Max Verstappen would have another easy race, McLaren, Ferrari, and even Mercedes are becoming a problem. The RB20 is not as dominant as everyone thought it was as other teams have stepped up their game. Every race weekend, the question stands, which driver will it be that will win the Grand Prix?

Although it’s still Max Verstappen winning most of the weekends, he does not do it without breaking a sweat. Especially not with Lando Norris up in his business. The McLaren driver will be starting the race in pole position; however, his time was just two-hundredths ahead of Verstappen. With the reigning champion clocking a time so close to Norris, McLaren had enough reasons to be worried. Until an F1 analyst broke down the reason for Verstappen’s shockingly close time.

All the top 4 teams looked extremely quick during the practice sessions and the qualifiers. Red Bull has to acknowledge that it’s not going to be smooth sailing for them. Lando Norris set an extremely impressive lap time of 1:11.383 securing the second pole position of his career. However, just because he is starting at the pole, does not mean he has the race easy.

As we saw during the Canadian Grand Prix, George Russell lost the win from pole to Max Verstappen. Lando Norris, who was leading the race for the significant bit also was overtaken by the 3x champion. This might bring thoughts of doubt that Verstappen might be quick enough to win the race to McLaren. However, that was cleared out by Bernie Collins, who noticed Red Bull’s strategy to clock the second fastest.

According to the Sky Sports F1 analyst, “Red Bull used Perez to give Verstappen a tow across the entire start/finish straight.” Considering this, Verstappen had an additional factor that helped him clock a fast lap time. This gives McLaren a sigh of relief, as this means their car is faster than the RB20.

Lando Norris scores his second pole position

Lando Norris is having his best season so far as he is a direct threat to Max Verstappen race after race. Often finishing on the podium, Norris achieved his first race win in Miami this season. Now that he is starting on the pole, there is a chance for him to bring home another victory.

The last time Norris started on Pole was in 2021, during the Russian Grand Prix. However, that’s where the race went extremely out of his favor as he finished P7. The Barcelona circuit is a great track to overtake, and Red Bull will be leveraging every tiny mistake made on Norris’ end.

McLaren has a race-winning car, and Norris has always had Verstappen looking over his shoulder. Now that the two friendly rivals are starting in the front row, fans are in for a fierce battle. Although Max Verstappen celebrated Norris’ first win with him, losing to him again is not an option for him.
