The ruthless nature of Formula 1 never truly allows a driver to be completely vulnerable in front of their colleague. Moreover, in F1, a driver’s teammate is their first and often their biggest rival. We have witnessed this scenario multiple times throughout the sport’s history. This doesn’t allow a driver to often befriend their teammate and instead, there is a sense of upmanship. Surprisingly, Lando Norris showcased this attribute ahead of the Australian GP.
F1 is an extremely physical sport and all drivers need to stay in top shape to perform at the highest level during a race. Staying healthy doesn’t allow most drivers to indulge in their favorite foods. The McLaren Brit showcased this side of him during a recent revelation by his teammate Oscar Piastri.

On The Fast and the Curious podcast, Piastri talked about his grandma’s special treat that he brought for the entire team. Piastri shared, “It’s like my grandma’s specialty. So Lamington’s is kind of like a sponge cake with chocolate on the outside and coconut. It’s very nice. The Lamington’s just a stereotypical Australian treat. She made a box for me and half she made for the team as well.”
This chocolaty sweet mouth-watering treat enticed most of the McLaren team but not Norris.
Lamington’s explanation provoked a question from one of the hosts, “Did Lando have any?” To which, Piastri replied, “No, I offered him some but he said, it’d put him overweight. Declined on all of them so I wasn’t very impressed with him on that.”
Piastri did not appreciate Norris’s rejection. Couple this with the incident during the Saudi Arabian GP and we might see another intra-team rivalry. Jokes apart, the two drivers are working in cohesion for their team.

Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri working in perfect harmony for McLaren
McLaren currently is far from where they want to be. The team is lagging on various fronts and needs massive changes to the car to fight the midfield battle. This requires harmony within the team and cooperation from both drivers. According to Norris, both he and Piastri, in that particular area, are working better than he and Daniel Ricciardo for the team.

“Our feedback is probably a bit more similar than in previous years, I think that’s a good thing because we have better dynamics, so the engineers, the aerodynamicists and the rest of the team can focus on that because we want the same thing. This applies both on and off the track. I’m not going to praise him too much now, but he’s doing a very good job and I think he understands the car well, even if it’s not easy to drive,” said Norris.

Not to upset the Ricciardo stans but the veteran Australian never felt one with the car and struggled throughout. This was a major reason behind his string of poor performances. Piastri being able to understand the car better and be on the same wavelength as Norris helps the teams and the drivers equally more. Let’s see if this relationship bares fruit for the papaya team.
