Lando Norris on pole—Is he the future of F1 or just a flash in the pan?

The McLaren boys are back to the top! At the end of the Hungarian GP qualifying session, the ‘Papayas’ had the biggest smiles. With both Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri clinching P1 and P2 respectively, the Orange squad has their eyes focused on winning tomorrow. Meanwhile, Norris’ outstanding performance demands appreciation. But, his dad, Adam Norris has something adorable for his son.

Like most father-son duos, Adam and Lando share a very special bond. Papa Norris never misses a chance to celebrate even the smallest of the McLaren No.1’s achievements. And this time is no different. Here the occasion is grand; being the pole-sitter could get Lando his second Grand Prix race win tomorrow. And who wouldn’t want that? Surely, Norris Jr. is hungry for his second win, given how dominant he’s been recently.

Meanwhile, Adam Norris took to his Instagram handle to declare out loud that his son is on the lead. The founder of Pure Electric shared a photo of their recently launched Pure X McLaren Papaya scooter featuring Lando Norris. Donned in an all-black fit, Lando stands with the scooter in front of him. And just then the term “Pole” pops up. With the song ‘Happy’ by Pharrell Williams playing, one can easily understand that Papa Norris is feeling over the moon!

Despite Max Verstappen‘s initial dominance in Q2 and Q3, Norris’ valorous driving outperformed the 3x world champion. With a fair chance of winning the 2024 Hungarian GP, the Brit feels pumped with new energy. He would want to scrub off his Austria and Silverstone blunders and reclaim himself as the title contender.

Hungaroring was tricky today. As rain before and during qualifying intensified the drama, the McLarens emerged as a dominant force. Norris succeeded in setting the fastest lap time right before Yuki Tsunoda‘s crash that brought out the safety cars in Q3. With just 2:13 minutes left, rain entered the scene to ensure the leaders were unable to improve on the used tires. However, Norris, aided by Piastri in second place, has a strong chance to close Verstappen’s 84-point lead in the world championship.

Moments before Tsunoda’s crash, Piastri went just 0.022 seconds slower than Norris on their second and final flying laps of Q3. Verstappen was a few hundredths behind in third. Norris couldn’t finish his second attempt because of the incident. Meanwhile, Carlos Sainz finished fourth and Charles Leclerc sixth, and Lewis Hamilton sandwiched between the Ferraris. George Russell shockingly exited in Q1 followed by yet another Sergio Perez disaster.

The field is set for Lando Norris. It is either a win or no-win tomorrow. Given the Brit’s previous failures to capitalize on the strategies and upgrades, the Hungarian GP could be that race to wipe out all the criticism. With his family and fans behind him, Norris should be ready to go heads-on against the strongest Top 10 of the lot. Do you think Lando Norris could win the race tomorrow?
