Another week goes by and we still have no new updates on Lewis Hamilton‘s contract extension. The prolonged contract talks between Mercedes and Hamilton have made many wonder and speculate about his future. Many believe Lewis Hamilton will finally leave the Brackley outfit and take his talents elsewhere. However, F1 veteran and expert Peter Windsor is of a different opinion, especially after the British GP performance of Lando Norris.
That’s right, Windsor believes, Norris and McLaren’s performance at Silverstone will play a role in Hamilton extending his contract. Windsor made this bizarre yet logical correlation in his British GP review YouTube video. Not just the correlation, Windsor also eliminated any other possible destination for the Brit in his reasoning quoted by F1 Maximaal.

“I can’t imagine Ferrari being attractive to him,” said Windsor. “But if he doesn’t go to Ferrari, where will he go? He won’t get a Red Bull seat, so he might as well stay where he is.”
“I think Lewis is more or less convincing himself to stay at Mercedes, isn’t he? You could argue that he got back on the plane after the British Grand Prix and thought, Look at McLaren, they’ve turned the tide. We can do the same,” concluded Windsor.
Now only time will tell how accurate Windsor’s assessment is. We are not sure how influential Norris will be in his contract extension but the two are definitely bonding.

The young Brit pipped the “old” GOAT to become the “top Brit” at Silverstone. However, that does not change the fact the two share a healthy relationship and a bond of mutual respect toward each other. In fact, Norris even confessed watching Hamilton during his initial years was monumental in his desire to become an F1 driver. Now, walking on the same path, Norris believes there is a sense of comradery between the two as they share a past.
“He still has a lot of respect for McLaren and I think he still has a lot of love for McLaren,” said Norris. “I think he wants us to do well, which is still a nice thing because it’s where he started his career. I feel like wherever you start your career, you kind of owe them something in a way. And McLaren gave me an opportunity, so I’ll do something for them. Like I said, [the relationship] is growing, it’s good, getting to know each other more, which is a cool thing,” he concluded.
