The Bahrain testing is finally over for everyone, including Lando Norris and McLaren. However, the team is now in a pretty confusing state. The Woking-based team had concluded the pre-season testing in Barcelona quite well. However, they’ve had some problems during testing in Bahrain.

Despite McLaren’s unremarkable performance in testing, Lewis Hamilton went on to say that Mercedes is behind McLaren in performance. Nevertheless, Lando believes that his team needs to do a bit more than what Hamilton had to say.

Talking about this, Norris conveyed, “The tests are far from ideal. I’ve only had two and a half days of driving and it hasn’t gone smoothly. Barcelona was good but here we ran into a few problems that greatly limited our laps. We know there is so much to do. We need to do a lot more than Lewis said we should do.”

The 22-year-old further stated, “We are behind where we want to be. It’s not great, but we’re doing as much as we can and there’s definitely improvement. But that’s not where we want to be.”

How did the testing turn out to be for Lando Norris’s McLaren?

McLaren had some pretty good performances in Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in Spain. The MCL36 were strong in the high-speed corners. However, the high-speed corners have always been a strong point for the Papaya team.

The track in Barcelona is quite different from that of Bahrain. The MCL36 is weak into the slow corners. This is where they fall behind Mercedes, Red Bull, or Ferrari. This is the reason why Lando thinks they were better in Spain.

Norris’s teammate Daniel Ricciardo was unwell during the pre-season test. The Briton, as a result, had to drive throughout the two and a half-day. Moreover, the 22-year-old hasn’t been able to try long rides for three days due to overheating brakes. Hence, McLaren is yet to find a solution to the problem.

All in all, things don’t look all flowery for the Papayas. Despite Hamilton’s appraisal, the Woking-based team needs to cover up a lot of work before the season’s first race commences at Bahrain.
