Sergio Perez, the king of the street circuits, is heading to his most beloved venue, Baku. Perez is arguably the best street track driver on the grid, if not ever. The track that helps the Mexican solidify this claim is none other than Baku. Perez has already secured four podiums in Baku, which is more than any other driver on the grid. This is exactly Red Bull might shift their focus to Perez rather than Max Verstappen for the upcoming Azerbaijan GP.

Verstappen is one of the greatest drivers the sport has ever produced. The Dutchman arguably is a modern great and will definitely leave a mark on the sport once he reties. It also seems the Dutchman is on a hot streak since the 2022 season. He already has two wins and P2 in the opening three races.

Verstappen might be a monster on every track, but the Baku street track is his Achilles heel. The Dutchman has crashed out of a race in Baku three times in the past. He did win the 2022 edition of the race. However, since its introduction in 2016, the Baku track is yet to see a repeat winner.

Verstappen’s poor luck coupled with Perez’s history in Baku would make the Mexican a safe bet for Red Bull. The fans are definitely backing Perez, which is evident by the reactions to the tweet posted by F1’s official page.

Fans hail Sergio Perez, the king of Baku as the Mexican goes in the race as the favorite ahead of Max Verstappen

The video posited by F1’s Twitter page is a montage of Perez’s podiums in Baku. The Mexican secured one in 2016, 2018, 2021, and one in 2022. The Mexican will want to make it three years in a row at the weekend and the fans have faith in him.

The fans flooded the tweet with chants of “King of Baku” in the replies.

We are not kidding, the tweet had nothing but “King of Baku” or its substitute in the replies.
