Kimi Raikkonen has been charming with his presence on and off the track this season. Although his car had not been performing to the standard he had expected it to, the experience in his years came in handy. Despite securing only four points this season, he bagged the Action of the Year award for his first lap at Portimao.
The realization that his car was not fast enough to compete with the rest had a sobering effect, helping him secure nothing over two P9s. Nonetheless, his spirit was far from broken and he showed that at Portimao.
The pilots had complained of a loss of grip on the circuit of the Portuguese Grand Prix. The starting lap of the Sunday race saw the leaders locking up at Turns 1 and 2 with tires burning out. However, our Iceman knew where to turn and with his experience climbed up 10 positions, a remarkable drive from the Finn.

Besides his racing, humor is one aspect for which Raikkonen is noted in the grid. The Alfa Romeo pilot is a king of sarcasm and he employs it mercilessly on his teammates and competitors. Earlier, he received his FIA trophy at home, but the manner in which he announced it on Instagram was hilarious.

“Twin brother working hard collecting trophies, I did the overtaking. Thank you,” read the post of a cardboard cut-out of the Finn posing beside his trophy. It had the fans rolling over, laughing over the silly post.

The new rules and regulations peak Kimi’s interest. The promise of a much tighter battle on the track, with cars following each other much more closely than before, gives every teaman equal footing. FIA has also promised the sport to be far more pilot centric, with the skills of the pilot mattering more than the car. Well, Kimi looks forward to making the most of that.
Raikkonen had expected his 2020 season to be better than a P16 on the driver’s championship. However, his team could not provide him with a car that could match his mettle. Although he stayed ahead of his teammate in the final standings, their points tally was the same.
