Generally, in Formula 1, a race is won or lost on a Sunday. But at Monaco, the stakes are the highest on Qualifying Day. Monaco isn’t your usual circuit, let alone your usual street circuit. Overtaking is virtually impossible, ask Lewis Hamilton, Max Verstappen, or Nigel Mansell. Naturally, all the 20 drivers have the pressure turned up to 100 on Saturday in the principality. But if there’s one driver you’d count on to deliver, it has to be the king of the streets, Sergio Perez, right?
The Mexican has gone out of Q1 this year, though. Hence, he will not participate in the remainder of the session and has virtually doomed his chance to get back-to-back wins at Monaco. Last year’s Monaco GP winner got his pole position secured after crashing in Q3. However, this time around, he tried employing that tactic two sessions too early! After binning his RB19 into the barriers at Sainte Devote, Perez retired from the Qualifying session.

However, after two consecutive Quali crashes in two years, he seems to have dashed those hopes. Naturally, fans were quick to call him out for this on social media.

Monaco’s one of the best quali sessions in all of motorsport.
Tight quarters. No comfort. Little margin for error.
Just ask Sergio Perez right now.

Safe to say, Perez may have doomed his chances of getting a decent result here tomorrow. However, Checo has also taken a hit on his reputation as the king of the streets!
