The Nico Rosberg-Lewis Hamilton rivalry was one of the most entertaining teammate vs teammate rivalries in the modern F1 era. While Hamilton got the better of Rosberg twice by winning the championship in 2014 and 2015, Nico got one over Lewis in 2016. In one of his YouTube videos, Rosberg was gloating about the championship win but regret hit pretty instantly.

Nico Rosberg‘s videos are among the best if you want to study individual F1 circuits. Before each GP, the German driver extensively explains the most intricate details of a track and how drivers approach them. In one of his videos, before he was about to go on a lap on the simulator, he was told to approach the first corner carefully, as it was slippery.

Nico immediately shut them down and said, Man are you kidding me? You’re talking to an F1 world champion. Telling that the first corner is slippery.” Nico instantly regretted making the comment as he did struggle for grip in the exact same section of the track and had a good laugh.

Still laughing, he repeated what he was told, And the guy starts with saying ‘careful Nico, the first corner is slippery’.”

The video ends with – He was right.

Hamilton arrived at Mercedes in 2013. The first season went pretty smoothly for the two teammates, as there was no friction between them. However, 2014 brought in a championship-worthy car, and, according to Rosberg, that is when the rivalry kicked off. Lewis does not necessarily see it that way and feels it started way earlier.

Lewis Hamilton reveals when the friction built up between him and Nico Rosberg

Hamilton and Rosberg were no strangers to each other when the former McLaren driver joined Mercedes. They both knew each other from childhood as they were teammates racing for Mercedes Benz McLaren in Formula A. The conflict, according to Lewis, started when he was just 13.

Speaking on The Jonathan Ross Show in December 2015, Hamilton recalled, There is for sure this friction naturally with [Nico Rosberg]. We’ve known each other since I went to race in Italy. I got signed when I was 13.”

“When I got there, he was the golden child because his dad was an F1 world champion. So he arrived in a helicopter and had all the best of everything,” he continued. “He led the whole race. I was behind him and I overtook him in the last lap and won the race and that’s where our relationship started.”

“So you can imagine we’re in Formula 1 now, and he more than ever wants to set the record straight. But I think there is only room for one number one.”
