The rebranded Aston Martin can’t seem to keep themselves away from all the headlines. Not only will they race under a new identity this season but also with 4-time World Champion Sebastian Vettel manning the wheel of their F1 car. However, one thing or rather a person that gets the team all the negative publicity is Lance Stroll.
The Canadian does not hold a good reputation as fans believe he’s not earned his race seat in F1. And it does not help him that his performances can’t dispel the notion that he is only a part of Aston Martin because of Lawrence Stroll’s ownership of the team.
While there were flashes of brilliance with a couple of podiums and a maiden pole in Turkey, he also went through a rough spell with just 2 points in 7 races, a prospect that truly irked the former team boss Eddie Jordan.

“He has enormous talent. And he has the speed to be a world champion, he really, really does. But what I would like to see is more consistency. You go to a race and I’m not sure what I’m likely to see from Lance.”
However, he thinks that his future teammate Sebastian Vettel will help him iron out those deficiencies. “I think Vettel coming can help them to do that.
“I think that Vettel may spur him on, just like Vettel spurred on Leclerc. And it could be that you might find a completely different driver in Lance Stroll this year.”
“I think he will up his game into something really, really strong, partly because it’s Aston Martin now, partly because he has something to prove against Vettel.

While the signing of Vettel is attracting criticism from few corners, Team Principal Otmar Szafnauer is chuffed with their driver pairing. Like Jordan, he too is expecting Vettel to bring out the best in Stroll.
“We also think Sebastian will bring out the best in Lance, with Lance pushing Sebastian hard in return, so we’re delighted with our 2021 line-up. It’s the ideal blend of experience, race-winning knowhow, and raw talent,” said Szafnauer.
2021 will be Stroll’s 5th season in F1. So he better step up to the task and vindicate his team’s belief in him. Else, the enigmatic driver will have to bear with the tag of a pay driver for the rest of his career.
