It is quite evident on race weekends that Max Verstappen shares a special bond with his family. The Dutchman is cruising to his 2nd world title and a lot of his success can arguably be credited to them, especially his father, Jos Verstappen. Being a former F1 driver himself, Jos understands the demands of a racing driver. Moreover, he shares how he hasn’t let it affect his relationship with his son.

Although we might have heard some unconventional stories involving Jos and a young Max Verstappen, there is no denying the fact that the father-son duo shares a special bond. Speaking on the official F1 podcast: Beyond The Grid, Jos opened up about the same.
While remembering something that happened almost a decade ago with Lewis Hamilton and his dad, the hosts ask if there will come a time when Max won’t want Jos’s paternal influence.
To this, Jos replied, “I think we will not come to the point that he thinks that way because I really leave him. I let him do his own things. But I always had my ears open and things like that.”
He further added, “Also, I am not there to do only the complaining, ‘Oh Max you shouldn’t do that’. No. I also tell him what is good.”
“We have a very good relationship, also in private.”

But which 10-year-old incident was the host talking about? Apparently, right before the start of the 2010 season, the then McLaren driver let his dad, Anthony, go from the position of his manager.
Since their journey together was nothing less than a story out of a movie, the entire F1 fraternity was shocked by Hamilton’s decision.
Max Verstappen was always ready for the big leap to F1, claims Jos
There’s no doubt that Jos Verstappen’s face beams with pride whenever the Dutch Lion takes to his Red Bull car or stands on the podium after a good outing. Talking on the same podcast, Jos revealed how Max was always ready for the big leap in F1.
When asked if he was nervous and ready for Max to race in F1 at such a young age, Jos said, “I knew Max was (ready to race in F1)”.

He further added, “His raw speed, the maturity he has, and also to be honest, it’s the way Red Bull picked him up and trained him and things like that.”
It turned out well for both Red Bull and Max Verstappen as the Dutch driver won his first World Title last year in a blockbuster finale. Red Bull is also on the verge of winning their first Constructors Title in more than 8 years.
