Max Verstappen became the first non-Mercedes driver of the Turbo-Hybrid era to win a world championship. He beat Lewis Hamilton in the last race of the season to take the title in 2021. The Red Bull driver had almost the perfect season and had many amazing performances throughout the season.
But according to his father, there is one moment in the 2021 season that stands out for him. Jos Verstappen chose the Saudi lap as the proudest moment for him in Max’s 2021 campaign.

He has such a special feeling in the car: Jos on Max Verstappen
As reported by GPFans, it is surprising that Jos did not pick the Dutch Grand Prix win as Max’s best performance. Admittedly, his Saudi lap until the last corner was something special as he pushed his car to the limit.
“It is hard to name only one thing because so many things happened during the season. But for me, when I see his quali laps in Q3, the way he is driving the car on the limit as he did in Jeddah… that was an unbelievable lap,” said Jos.

“Saying that, also in Abu Dhabi, that qualifying lap was unreal. He has such a special feeling in the car, it is incredible.” said the former F1 driver.

Max was on the limit throughout the lap, as he was centimeters from the wall in every corner. But at the last corner, he had a lock-up and went into the wall. After the lap, the Dutch driver mentioned that he was very disappointed.
“It’s, of course, terrible. It’s extremely disappointing… I thought in the last corner there was still a bit to gain.” said Max after his qualifying lap.
Had he finished his lap, it would have surely gone down as one of the greatest laps in qualifying ever. He also managed to put in another stunning lap in Abu Dhabi to get pole position. Overall, in 2021, Max was amazing in qualifying as he got 10 pole positions.
