Max Verstappen’s father, Jos Verstappen, a former F1 driver, has had a huge impact on Max’s journey. Max has learned plenty from his father and has always given him credit for the support that he has received from him.

Jos Verstappen has helped Max since the very start of his career. He has always made it a point to be present and involved in all of his races. Max Verstappen has always looked up to his father for guidance and support. Surrounded by an extremely supportive family, Max has always been encouraged to reach new heights.

As Jos shared in an interview, he was present for the race in Abu Dhabi last season when Max won the title for the first time. With the way things turned out then, Jos admits to being a little overwhelmed. However, this year, even though he couldn’t be present at the Japanese Grand Prix, he was confident that Max would bring home the title.

Talking to Viaplay, he said, “The rules will remain largely the same, so the group will come together and we will have even better races. However, the strongest driver always comes to victory. Max Verstappen’s ‘weird’ experience at the 2022 Japanese GP

Max recently shared his experience post the race at the Suzuka Circuit. As there was a lot of confusion surrounding the end result, Max admitted the ordeal felt ‘weird’ and ‘funny’.

He said, “During the race, I had no clue what they were going to decide with the points – the main target was to win the race. But yeah, once I crossed the line I was like ‘okay, that was an amazing race, good points again but not World Champion yet’.”

Max also shared that during his interviews he saw the mechanics cheering and learned that Sergio Perez had taken second place instead of Charles Leclerc.

He further explained, “But I still didn’t know if it was full points, half points, or whatever, 75 percent. But then of course, you read through the rules. And Tom [Wood, FIA Media Delegate] came to me and said I was the World Champion. So then we celebrated.”
