“This is the hardest moment I can remember in my career and it’s absolutely not easy,” said Logan Sargeant, describing the shocking car swap in Australia. Sargeant, who is the only American driver on the Formula 1 grid, has a lot riding on his shoulder, which is representing millions of new fans from the land of Uncle Sam. And Williams isn’t making it easy for him as this weekend is set to repeat the horrors of Australia and Japan.

In Australia, Logan’s teammate Alex Albon broke his car during the practice session. Williams, who has been fighting with the backmarkers, understood the value of even a single point which seemed distant with Albon not in the running. Team Principal James Vowles was then faced with that very tricky decision of not keeping Albon, the driver who scored 27 of the team’s 28 points last year, on the sidelines or face telling Sargeant that he needed to step aside for the good of the team.

Vowels obviously chose the latter. The next weekend, Logan was given Alex’s ‘repaired car’ instead of his own due to the same logic as the Thai driver, having a higher chance of scoring a point of two. And if reports are to be believed, we may see a repeat of the same this weekend. Logan Sargeant told the media present today that he won’t have any upgrades on his car this weekend – but Albon will.

Logan Sargeant looks like a driver whose time in F1 is coming to an end, F1 expert

The rumors of Kimi Antonelli to Williams are ripe. And with Alex Albon’s singing of a multi-year contract with the Sleeping Giants, everything points toward Logan’s dismissal from the team. According to BBC Sport’s F1 correspondent Andrew Benson, describes Williams’ Sargeant as “looking very much like a driver whose time in F1 is coming to an end”.

Benson wrote, “The two big candidates here are Williams’ Logan Sargeant and RB’s Daniel Ricciardo. Sargeant is looking very much like a driver whose time in F1 is coming to an end. Unless he turns things around, the only question seems to be whether it will be during the season or at the end of it. Williams is said to be keen to replace him before the end of the season with Mercedes protégé Andrea Kimi Antonelli, who is racing in Formula 2 for the first time this season.”
