As reported by Sky Sports, Vettel defended the race director by mentioning how difficult his job is.
“Absolutely wrong. It’s [shameful] that it’s all focused on one man. He probably had a very, very difficult position on that day and we probably should focus on making the rules better and more clear, so it’s better for everyone.
I think it’s completely wrong. I don’t understand why there’s been so much focus on him and I think he was trying to do the best job he could. “ said Vettel.
Four-time world champion reveals why there was a controversy in Abu Dhabi
The 4-time world champion revealed the main reason behind the controversy in Abu Dhabi. There has been a lot of discussion on whether F1 is now more entertainment than a competitive sport. The Aston Martin driver gave his opinion on this discussion.
” There are two interests clashing. One is the sport, and the other is the show. I don’t care so much about the show because I look at is a sport and from a competitive point of view. Obviously, it is not the easiest to be in the shoes of the referee or Michael’s shoes, but he has done a great job, particularly after filling in for [former race director] Charlie Whiting who died so suddenly.

Michael has been very focused and determined to do a good job. I don’t know what is in store for his future, but I hope he sticks around because overall he has done a very good job,” said the Aston Martin driver.
It is a nice gesture from Vettel to defend the F1 race director amid all this negative controversy. It is certainly not the fault of one person with regards to the events in Abu Dhabi last season. Hopefully, the regulations and the guidelines would be more clear to avoid a situation like this again.
