Being a former Formula 1 driver himself, Jos Verstappen knows what it is like to compete in competitive motorsports. Verstappen Sr. knows what toll a Formula 1 season can have on a driver. He trained his son Max Verstappen ever since his karting days and today he is a 2-time world champion. Jos, however, knows that his son might not race for too long.

After leading every lap of the race, Max Verstappen was crowned world champion at the Japanese GP. After Carlos Sainz’s crash in the very first lap, the race was red-flagged. Subsequently, heavy rain delayed the restart by around 2 hours. However, right after the restart, the Flying Dutchman showed his class and kept on building on his lead to win the race and the championship.

Jos Verstappen thinks that his son Max is not chasing records

Formule1 Magazine recently interviewed Jos Verstappen. The Red Bull driver’s father praised his son for his recent feat and said that he knows what he is doing. On whether the second title is the beginning of Max’s era of dominance, Jos thought it would depend on how fast his car would be.

Verstappen is currently racing for Red Bull on a contract that will run until the end of 2028. On whether he will race beyond 2028, his father said, “We will take stock again in 2028. It’s not like he’s chasing records.” [Translated with Google]

Max Verstappen recently admitted that he does not see himself racing in Formula 1 when he turns 40. He, however, clarified that he wants to engage himself in other motor sporting ventures.

He added that at least for now, while he is bound by a contract to race for Red Bull until 2028, he will only think about other plans after that and see how things are going for him.
