The MCL36 has not always been kind to Lando Norris. Granted, his teammate Daniel Ricciardo has had a nightmare season, and Norris might have hammered him into the ground, but it’s not a secret that the Brit is not very happy with what McLaren has given him in terms of machinery in 2022.

It is only a testament to Norris‘ driving ability and talent that he made Q3 at the 2022 United States GP Qualifying. This is something that was touched upon in the media pen after the session. However, even in that stressful environment, the Brit gave us a few laughs.

After the Qualifying session at COTA, he was asked about his joyous radio moment when he made Q3. The reporter asked him, “We heard you say “yeah, baby” is that ‘baby’ your car?”

To which Norris hilariously equipped, “No, because if that’s my car, it’s not a very nice baby.”

After an eventful but tough qualifying, Norris would’ve hoped for an easier race. As the Brit would explain himself, the race was massively enjoyable for him. However, it was no bed of roses.

Lando Norris looks back at the “fun” but “incredibly difficult” United States Grand Prix

Lando Norris had an eventful weekend at the United States Grand Prix. First, he scraped through to make it to Q3, then had a chaotic and overtake-filled race on Sunday where he eventually finished P6. When asked about the entire event, he was a mixed bag of emotions.

Speaking to Formula1.com, he said, “Yeah, it was a tough race. Very tough race, we had a lot of things thrown our way: the incident in Turn 1, having to avoid Carlos, so I lost two or three positions. And then the Safety Car as well, we boxed like two laps before, so I think Fernando got to overcut us with the Safety Car.”

He summarized his race by saying, “A lot of fun, just difficult, you know, incredibly difficult to put in clean laps and not making mistakes – to make it all count. Fun, and especially to race Fernando in the last few laps, it’s tough. It was very tough.”
