Charles Leclerc might still now be over his Monaco GP heartbreak. But Ferrari blundered the strategy again. Only this time, it was in a video game. The Monegasque driver once again fumed at the mistakes made by his team.

Leclerc was racing at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in the rain and decided to pit to change his tires. But he was left displeased when his team fitted the wet tires instead of the intermediates.

“Come on, I’m pitting. Oh wait, wait, wait, no, no, no. It chose the wets. That is definitely the worst strategy ever! No, it’s not a risk, it is just the worst idea,” said Leclerc on the stream.

Something similar happened to him in Monaco this season when Ferrari made a strategical blunder and called Leclerc into the pits at the wrong time.

The Italian team could have held on to their advantage and the track position of 1-2. But they pitted Leclerc twice in a matter of laps, which resulted in him slipping to fourth. He called the blunder unacceptable in terms of the championship, after the race.

“It was a freaking disaster today. The win was clearly in our hands: we had the performance, we had everything. I just don’t really understand the call that I had and I need explanations for now.

I couldn’t do much, I was called just before the last corner, so I couldn’t react or ask for any information, but that was clearly the wrong choice… We need to get better,” said Leclerc.

The Monegasque driver was left heartbroken to miss out on the chance of winning his home race. His frustration towards the team was justified, as the mistake cost him a sure-shot win.

This points to the fact that Ferrari needs to get better with their strategic calls in races. On many occasions, their mistakes have cost them multiple race wins and good points during important weekends.

It is also crucial for them this season to be alert as they are battling for the championship against Red Bull. Hopefully, they have learned their lesson and won’t make the same mistakes again in 2022.
