The shadow of the controversial finale of the 2021 season in Abu Dhabi still looms large as F1 starts a new season. Everyone ripped apart the controversial end to the 2021 season during the off-season, and there are still some unanswered questions. Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton was at the center of the controversy, but the Briton mentioned he does not have any grudges towards anyone.

In the aftermath of the controversy, the FIA fired the race director Michael Masi and started an investigation into the events.

Lewis Hamilton is approaching the 2022 season with a fresh mind

As reported by BBC, Hamilton mentioned he has a clean slate going into the all-important 2022 season. He stated he does not hold any baggage from the heartbreak of the 2021 season finale.

“I don’t hold any grudges. I don’t have any baggage going into the season. It is important to let go. All I can do is try and shape what’s ahead. I can’t change the past,” said Lewis.

Hamilton also revealed that he had a call with the current FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem about the investigation and the transparency needed in the sport. Lewis mentioned he was happy with the conversation and the future of the sport.

“It is important that as a sport we are transparent and I had a good meeting with Mohammed last night. He agreed that’s the direction we should take as a sport, so (I’m) looking forward to it coming out and for people to know the sport is transparent and we are learning from what happened in the past and are moving forwards,” said the Mercedes driver.

Hamilton is looking to bounce back in the 2022 season. He would hope that the German team gives him a race-winning car so that he can challenge for the title. Admittedly, the first signs of the new W13 on the track have not been positive.

He has struggled a lot in the car and was not comfortable throughout the two Free Practice sessions. Let’s see if there is any difference in the car’s performance and handling going into the all-important quali session.
