Carlos Sainz has always been an incredible talent. And now, with Ferrari, the Spaniard is showing us exactly what he can do when he has comparable machinery underneath him. While the bulk of the credit for his prowess goes only to him, he does have an impeccable racing pedigree to boast of. His father, Carlos Sainz Sr. is a bonafide racing legend. But while he did have a lot to learn from his father, his grandfather, Antonio Sainz Rebollo, was a great source of inspiration.

Unfortunately, Rebollo, who shared a deep bond with his grandson, Sainz, passed away earlier this week. While he may not have been a racing driver himself, he did kickstart the motoring tradition in the Sainz household. And for that, and much more, Sainz Jr. paid his respects.

The past few days have arguably been very tough for the Sainz family. And the Spanish racing ace has maintained his distance from social media at that time. However, he came onto his Instagram account today to share a tribute to his beloved grandfather.

He shared a series of pictures with Rebollo and captioned it, “Yesterday was a sad day for our family as we said our last goodbye to my grandfather Antonio. He has been our guide and support through thick and thin. A great example for all those around him. Enjoy and cherish every moment with your elders. It is a gift that won’t last forever and they truly deserve our love and respect.”

“Thank you for all your kind messages these past days.”
