Sebastian Vettel suffered an early exit from the Italian Grand Prix qualifiers. Ferrari struggled in Q1 at Monza. While Charles Leclerc was able to notch a place in Q2, Vettel was eliminated right away. Although he was out, he kept himself busy watching the rest of the qualifiers from the trackside.

Ferrari has struggled significantly this season. With a second position finish at Austria and a third at Silverstone, Ferrari stands 5th in the Constructors’ Championship standings.

Although the miserable condition of Ferrari in 2020 is an established fact, no one believed Vettel would crash out as one of the slowest and book a position lower in the grid.

Sebastian Vettel and the entire Ferrari fleet lines up together

Charles Leclerc proved his mettle and booked himself the 13th position. Just 3 places off  P10, he will be looking forward to a Top-10 finish. However, Vettel finds himself slotted in P17 ahead of the 2 Williams and an Alfa Romeo.

Observing the starting grid gives us a thorough insight into the issue with the Ferrari engine. Due to the weak power unit, the Scuderia aren’t the only ones suffering, in fact, the teams that are powered by Ferrari engines have it equally difficult.

Currently, Haas and Alfa Romeo are the two teams running with the Ferrari engine unit along with the Prancing Stallion. Exposing the weakness of the engine, all these teams will line up one after the other in the grid in Monza.

Charles Leclerc in P13 will be the starter, followed by Alfa Romeo’s Kimi Raikkonen in P14. The two units of Haas follow suit with Kevin Magnussen in P15 and Romain Grosjean in P16.

The 4-time World Champion lines up next in P17 while drawing the line, Antonio Giovinazzi takes P18. The starting grid standings aren’t coincidental. It simply reflects how poor the Ferrari engine has been this season. Only the shambolic performance of Williams spared them of the blushes of acquiring the last two spots.

However, this is a major concern for Ferrari and they must look into the matter with the utmost precision. If the streak permeates into the next season, we might see the existing deal between Ferrari and its customers crumble.
