Williams racing surely enjoyed some formidable sessions back in the ’90s. However, with the dawn of the 21st century, their performance has been restricted to battles in the midfield.

Having suffered hefty financial issues, Williams was looking for a new investor. A New York-based investment group, Dorilton Capital, came forward to acquire the age-old racing group.

Sir Frank Williams is the founder of Williams and had been with the team since its inception in 1977. Claire Williams, the daughter of Sir Frank joined Williams in 2002. However, following the acquisition, Sir Frank Williams and Claire Williams would be stepping down from their respective positions after the race in Italy.

“The Williams family is stepping away from Formula 1 and I will be resigning my role after this race weekend here in Italy.  We’re enormously grateful for the support that you’ve given us over the years. The strategic review process culminated in us selling the team outright to Dorilton Capital,” Claire said via Twitter.

Dorilton Capital would be taking over the functioning of the company. However, considering the history and legacy that the team holds, the Dorilton group won’t be changing the name and would continue racing under the original banner.

“They have huge respect for the history and the legacy, they are going to keep racing with the Williams name which is going to be wonderful to see. With the financial firepower that they have, I know that they can take this team back to where we all want to see it and that is at the front of the grid.”

The past, present, and future of Williams

The takeover is underway and after the Italian Grand Prix, Dorilton Capital would be making the pivotal changes. With the resignation of the Williams family, Dorilton Capital has received the green signal to work on the functioning of the company.
