Many questions were raised when McLaren signed Oscar Piastri under Alpine’s nose. The French stable, looking for Alonso’s replacement prematurely announced Piastri and we all know how that went. Yet, Zak Brown and Co. came out on top. Now, as Oscar Piastru hailed Zak Brown’s ruthless approach, Oscar Piastri rubs salt in Esteban Ocon and Co’s miserable wounds. What did Piastri say?

Alpine and McLaren have been going at each other both on and off track. The 2022 fight for 4th in the constructors was very intense. However, with the 2023 upgrades, the McLaren has been a different beast altogether. Alpine on the other hand finished P3 at Zandvoort. However, the real story is that Alpine is quite behind McLaren in terms of pace. At the Italian GP qualifying, both Alpine failed to make it out of Q1. This has happened for the time since the team was rebranded.

Just as Esteban Ocon and Co. digested the Monza qualifying disaster, Oscar Piastri came out to rub salts in their wounds. Oscar Piastri, who’s been a Renault/Alpine young driver and called the French team home for many years, has now come out to advise how McLaren feels at home. According to @TheMcLarenZone’s tweet, Oscar Piastri said, “McLaren were very keen to have me on the team and it was extremely nice to be wanted, it’s nice to be able to start calling it home.”

Oscar Piastri talked about how McLaren was super keen to have Piastri onboard. Alpine on the other hand blew it up. Even Fernando Alonso complained of the slow negotiations from their side.

Fernando Alonso raced alongside Esteban Ocon for a couple of years. At Alpine While many think that the Spaniard got tired of his teammate, it was actually the management and admin side of the Alpine garage that was responsible for Alonso going away. The Spaniard revealed how the slow conversations from Alpine’s side were the reason he moved.

According to the Chequered Flag podcast, Fernando Alonso said, “I think it’s true that it took longer than what I thought when we started the conversation back in Australia in 2022 about renewing the contract. It was just a very slow pace. It was not from my side. I was just ready and I was just happy. And the 2022 car, it was a fast car. I was happy with the performance and possibilities into the future. So, the slow conversations and eventually not even putting on paper what we were writing.”
