Ferrari is on pole for the Italian GP. Yes, you read that right. Carlos Sainz after a magnificent lap in Q3 beat the dominant and unstoppable Max Verstappen by 0.013 of a second. However, despite the Ferrari pole, accusations were hurled toward Frederic Vasseur by a former F1 champ. Despite Charles Leclerc’s protests, the Ferrari TP denied any politics. What is this fuss all about?

Monza is infamously known as the temple of speed where the slipstream can make a lot of difference. Carlos Sainz was the faster driver throughout the weekend. Charles Leclerc did put a lap together at the end of Q3 and finished P3 just half a tenth behind Sainz. However, the Monegasque was sent out by Ferrari on his own at the front with no slipstream. The Monegasque after his final lap said “Arghhhhh! The slipstream guys…the slipstream.”

This advised that Leclerc wanted the slipstream and that is what probably cost him the pole. Frederic Vasseur on the other hand when asked about the politics at Ferrari and why Leclerc wasn’t given the slipstream advised that it’s better to not have the slipstream. “You have the advantage of the slipstream in a straight line, but you also have a disadvantage. Max was out of the slipstream. It was the right call,” said Vasseur.

Nevertheless, former F1 champion Nico Rosberg questioned Ferrari’s tactics and questioned the internal politics at Ferrari but questioned why Sainz was given the slipstream during both runs in Q3. @FanaticsFerrari’s tweet advised that Rosberg said, “I think Charles Leclerc made a slight mistake in the team internal politics there. It shouldn’t have been that Charles tows Carlos two times in a row. If you get the slipstream right here, it’s a huge help.”

Despite the disappointment of the qualifying where Leclerc just missed out on the pole, the Monegasque still realized how special the moment was for the Tifosi. Leclerc advised that he usually isn’t happy about a P3 but the Tifosi support is making him smile. Leclerc suggested that the aim is to finish 1-2 in front of the Tifosi in the main race.
