Do you recall Lewis Hamilton making complaints about the W14 in and out every weekend up until Mercedes brought the new upgrades? Alpine seems to have taken a page out of Mercedes’ book as they deploy a $150,000 weapon to ignite Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly’s comeback after incessant complaints. What is this weapon and how will it help with the comeback?

Alpine has had a very mixed season so far. From the highs of Esteban Ocon’s podium in Monaco to the devastating crash between the teammates in Australia. The season certainly hasn’t gone the way Alpine wanted it to. The car as well, just like the season, has its ups and downs and the Alpine drivers complain about the inconsistency with the 2023 machine. Pierre Gasly complained about the under-steering nature of the car and its inconsistency.

However, Alpine has come to the British GP with a potential solution to the problem. The French team has brought a new front wing which is supposed to increase the load on the front of the tire and give a better front-end grip. According to F1Maximaal.nl, Matt Harman on The Race F1 podcast said, “We’re trying to shift a bit with our balance at low speeds. We are also trying to gain a little more insight into our overall aerodynamic balance. I think this will do that for us. It will take us to another level, so we are very excited.” [Translated Via Google]

Alpine has been there or thereabout near the Top 4 teams and has only closed the gap since the start of the season. With the field being very close behind Red Bull, a tenth usually means moving up a couple of positions in the qualifying. Pierre Gasly suggested that same as he expects the front wing to provide at least a tenth of a second benefit from the new wing.

According to the-race.com, Pierre Gasly talking about the new front wing said, “We’ve got a new front wing coming this weekend, but new parts as well in the next three races so I hope it can close that gap. At the moment, a tenth in qualifying can probably get us a row, if you get a row in quali and you get a position at the start it’s suddenly three positions higher than you qualify at the moment. That’s what we need to target.”
