Danish racing driver Kevin Magnussen recently dropped a huge Formula 1 claim. The former Haas driver stepped away from the sport at the end of the 2020 F1 season. The American team decided to let go of their entire driver line-up, even after a few impressive performances. Two rookies in the face of Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin donned the Haas outfit for 2021.
The team was at best a midfield competitor when Magnussen was a part of it. However, after replacing him and Grosjean, the last season turned out to be an utter fiasco for them. Magnussen made his F1 debut during the 2014 Australian GP for McLaren alongside Jenson Button. The Danish driver finished 2nd in his debut race, which remains to be his only podium in his entire career.

After 2 seasons with McLaren, he switched to Renault, where he stayed for one year in 2016 before moving ahead to Haas, his last team. His best season finish came in the 2018 season with Haas, where he finished 8th in the drivers’ standings. After stepping away from F1, he competes in series such as IMSA and WEC.
In a recent interview, Magnussen revealed the only condition in which he would make an F1 return.
Kevin Magnussen will compete only if he has a chance to win
Formula 1 is essentially not an equal sport in many aspects. Fans often bifurcate the teams into the top ones, the midfield ones, and back-of-the-grid teams. It seldom happens when a lower midfield team can break into the top 3 or top 5. Magnussen pointed out this flaw while discussing his F1 return. He has experience of a midfield team and knows there are hardly any chances to compete with the frontrunners.
In a recent interview with Motorsport.com, the 29-year-old said he is in a place where he is striving for regular wins, something which he never felt in F1. “For the rest of my career, I will only compete where I can win. No matter what I do, I’m not going to be in any series I know I can’t win. It will never happen again,” said Magnussen.
He says he will not be willing to join a middle-in-the-grid team. “No, I’ve already fought for the middle of the grid. It was great and I’m glad I had the chance to compete there. I was there for seven years and enjoyed it most of the time, but in a sporting sense my position as an athlete wasn’t enough,” he said.

Moreover, Magnussen says that now he feels that fire to win, which was long gone in F1. “I went to America and felt the fire of fighting for first place again. I come to every weekend with great hunger for victory, which brings me energy that hasn’t existed for a long time,” [h/t tr.motorsort.com] added the former Haas driver.
