Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo’s failed to deliver the Bromance that we got used to when Carlos Sainz partnered the Briton at McLaren. The standard was set super high by the former McLaren duo. Lando Norris’ invaluable impact on Carlos Sainz’s performance has now come to light as the Spaniard fades behind Charles Leclerc’s performance. What is the invaluable impact?
Carlos Sainz left McLaren and joined Ferrari in 2021 with the hopes of challenging for the title. While Ferrari hasn’t been able to provide a title-challenging car, the real challenge is Sainz’s pace deficit to Charles Leclerc. It was only the first season at Ferrari where Sainz beat Leclerc in the championship that too by only 5.5 points. Since then, Leclerc has been the No.1 Ferrari and the favorite to win a title with Ferrari.
In a recent podcast, it is suggested that Carlos Sainz was more interested and excited as an F1 driver when he was at McLaren. Toni Cowan-Brown suggested that she wants to see both the Ferrari drivers do better. The other hist quickly barged in and suggested that it was the Bromance with Lando Norris that made Carlos Sainz excited. Norris and Sainz shared a special bond while at McLaren which is still seen when the two get together.

According to the SkySportsF1 Podcast, Toni Cowan-Brown said, “I found Carlos Sainz way more exciting as a driver when he was at McLaren than what he is at Ferrari. I find them a lackluster pairing.” She added, “I want to see more from both of them, especially Charles Leclerc but Carlos Sainz as well is a phenomenal driver, I mean they all are. But I definitely found him more exciting when he was at McLaren.”
The other hosts including David Croft then advised, “It was the Bromance with Lando and all sorts of reasons.” Whether it was the Lando Norris effect or not, Carlos Sainz definitely needs to make a strong point for himself if he wishes to continue at Ferrari. The Spaniard was also held responsible for his recent crash with Oscar Piastri.

Carlos Sainz and Oscar Piastri crashed on Lap 1 at the Belgium GP. Piastri went on the inside of Sainz with the Spaniard turning in not realising that Piastri was there. As a result, both Sainz and Piastri retired from the race. Peter Windsor suggested that it was Carlos Sainz who was responsible and needed to be penalized.
According to Peter Windsor’s YT video, he said “Interestingly, given the number of Penalties being given, number of warnings or whatever that is given by the stewards these days, there was no action taken at all on this incident [Sainz and Piastri Lap 1 crash]. They just presumed that it was a start line, first-corner accident. To my mind, it was definitely Carlos Sainz.”
