Regarded as a legend today, Sebastian Vettel won it all 4 years in a row. Such was the domination he displayed during his time at Red Bull. However, that was in 2013, and the lack of competitiveness since then could well be the reason for his retirement at the end of this season.

Sebastian Vettel started his Formula 1 career in 2007. The German came in as a replacement for an injured Robert Kubica. He had an impressive debut as he became the youngest driver to score a point. Things only went uphill for him after that until his last title-winning season in 2013.

Would Sebastian Vettel have retired had he been in a competitive car?

Sebastian Vettel recently got candid in an interview posted on Aston Martin F1’s official website. The 4-time world champion opened up on his career in Formula 1 and life in general.

In the interview, Vettel was asked if he would have retired had he been in a championship-worthy car. He replied, “You have to be true to yourself. I love winning. It sounds selfish and egotistical but winning is what drives me.” The former Red Bull driver, however, admitted that he wasn’t sure if he would not have retired had he been in a competitive car.

Giving a glimpse of his winning mentality, he admitted, “Finishing 10th doesn’t give me a buzz because I know how it feels to finish first. If you’ve never finished first, the first time you finish 10th you get a real buzz. But I’m happy that I don’t get a buzz from finishing 10th.”

Sebastian Vettel feels that no one will remember him

Sebastian Vettel had a record-breaking 2013 season. Two of the records set by him that season still stand-put. One is the record for most consecutive race wins- 9, while the other is the record for most race wins in a season (13); he shares this record with Formula 1 veteran, Michael Schumacher.

While the record for most consecutive wins will stand for another year as Max Verstappen stumbled in Singapore GP after a 5 win-streak, the record for most race wins is still up for grabs as the Flying Dutchman already has 12 wins under his belt and there are still 4 races to go.

However, despite leaving such a rich legacy, Vettel thinks that he will not be remembered. He said, I once heard someone say, ‘You will only be remembered until the last person who remembers you dies’ There will probably come a point when no one will remember me. Nothing lasts forever.”
