Alex Albon lost his place in the Red Bull driver lineup for 2021 after the Austrian team signed Sergio Perez to partner alongside Max Verstappen. After spending a season away from the grid as just a reserve driver, Albon returned to the grid in 2022 with Williams.
Albon recently shared that it was devastating for him when the team told him that he had lost his Red Bull seat to Checo. But despite losing his place in Red Bull’s driver lineup and being a part of a new team now, the Thai driver still loves everyone from Red Bull.
The Williams driver said, “It killed me. It killed me, it was terrible. It was one of those things – it got announced that I wasn’t going to be a racing driver pretty late, I think it was December. They still believed in me and still trusted me, Christian and Helmut, everyone at Red Bull, and I still have a great relationship with them., the people I worked with.”

However, the 26-year-old is impressed with his performance in Imola. He even compared the Imola race to his mind-blowing drive in Australia. Albon reported, “Honestly, I was really happy with it–it felt like it was just as good as Melbourne for me.”
The Williams driver is also impressed that he and his team could pull off these amazing drives even with the car, which is not the fastest this season. The former Red Bull driver said, “We maximised what we could do. We overtook some cars on track with pace and then they were quicker than us, and we held off. We obviously had a low downforce configuration for the weekend, which isn’t fun for the others, but for us, it kept us in front.”
