Toto Wolff, Mercedes Team Principal, revealed that he wasn’t involved in any of the negotiations between Sebastian Vettel and Racing Point. However, Wolff believes Vettel joining Aston Martin in 2021 would be a good marketing tool for the team.
At this point, Racing Point announcing Vettel for next year wouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone.
Sergio Perez recently hinted at his own exit from the team, should another driver join Racing Point. Furthermore, the Mexican opened up on his exit clause, which rumors suggest are pivotal in Perez’s contract with the team.

One doesn’t need to be a genius to figure out that Perez could well be on his way out of the team.
What Aston Martin gains from Sebastian Vettel
Vettel joining Racing Point (soon to be Aston Martin) would suit both parties very well. With Sebastian’s arrival, Aston Martin can boast of a multiple World Champion driving for their F1 team.
More importantly, Vettel’s knowledge in car development could prove crucial in the British team’s quest to break out of the midfield.
However, the biggest selling point would be Vettel’s influence in bolstering the Aston Martin name. It’s no secret that the British team’s road car division isn’t exactly flourishing and getting Vettel onboard could work wonders for the company’s image.
From Vettel’s perspective, joining Aston Martin is no longer a risk. With Ferrari clearly out of the title fight this season and with the homologation rules in effect, the Scuderia are likely to struggle next season as well.

With Racing Point using effectively a Mercedes car, Vettel would finally get his hands on machinery that has great potential. Not to mention, a much-needed break from all the pressure involved in driving for Ferrari.
Wolff, who recently purchased shares in Aston Martin, rejected the possibility of having a say in Vettel-Racing Point talks.
“I am not involved in any conversations between Lawrence Stroll, Otmar, and Sebastian. My shares in the car company have nothing to do with the Formula 1 team,” said Wolff, as quoted by Motorsport-Total.com.

“It is Lawrence’s decision which pair of drivers is best for his racing team. Sebastian is a four-time world champion with a lot of speed and technical experience. And he would be an important marketing tool for Aston Martin.”
Will we see the German driver switch base from Maranello to Silverstone?
