Sergio Perez has recently revealed his family’s favorite driver! The Mexican family cheers for Lewis Hamilton alongside Max Verstappen and him included. This comes as a surprise to many, given Perez now drives for Mercedes’s arch-rivals Red Bull. Moreover, after Checo and Hamilton’s Abu Dhabi race encounter, this only becomes more interesting.

The Briton, who was on his way to an 8th world title, famously lost in the end moments. Notably, Checo did a great job defending against Hamilton, giving time for Verstappen to catch up. However, the “Mexican Minister of Defense”, as fans like to call him, back then admitted to being the situation “not a place that you want to be in”.

This season though the Red Bull driver has not directly competed with the Briton for top spots. Mercedes’s 2022 form was not equivalent to RB-18’s car pace, resulting in Hamilton usually dabbling in midfield.

A recent video of Verstappen and Perez is doing the rounds now. This is possibly a behind-the-scenes video where we can hear Perez saying, “You know who our favorite driver is?. It’s you, me of course, and Lewis.”

This line arguably came as a shock to Verstappen. The Dutchman funnily replied with a, ” Ah Really? “. Checo then claimed, “But normally more Lewis…”.

This prompted Verstappen to quickly reply with a, “Yeahhh, well, it has to change.”

Further, the Red Bull driving duo come off a fresh win from Spain where they managed another 1-2 of the season. Though the race was particularly difficult for Verstappen, he managed to take the win. However, the Dutchman’s win came after Perez was asked to give him the lead, which visibly upset the Mexican.

Though the Mexican back then claimed that he was happy for the team, he called for a meetup later. This has arguably upset several Checo fans who believed the win belonged to him. However, many camps also believed that Verstappen would’ve overtaken Perez anyway, given he was on fresher tires.
