Who wouldn’t want a chance to star in a Tom Cruise movie? While this is an absolute dream-come-true scenario for many, for Lews Hamilton, it just brings about heartbreaking memories!

The story unfolded when Hamilton and Cruise met over dinner one night. And, that’s when the driver ended up showing the Hollywood star his customized watch and making a grand request. The watch had the Top Gun logo on the back and the F1 driver told GQ his words to Tom Cruise saying, “I said, ‘Dude, if you ever do Top Gun 2…’—which had not been spoken of, there was no story yet—‘I will even be a janitor—just let me be in it.’ ”

This would have been a mega move for Lewis Hamilton to feature in a movie. Subsequently, when Top Gun: Maverick released, Hamilton was actually invited for a part. Unfortunately, Lewis Hamilton’s busy racing schedule prevented him from being able to make the shoot. To soften the blow on himself and his fans, Hamilton said, “Firstly, I hadn’t even had, like, an acting lesson, and I don’t want to be the one that lets this movie down.”

The 7-time-world champion also revealed how his demanding racing career made a chance to star in a movie a cumbersome task, and said, “And then secondly, I just really didn’t have the time to dedicate to it. I remember having to tell Joe and Tom—and it broke my heart. And then I regretted it, naturally, when they show me the movie and it’s: It could’ve been me! So, this was the story of how Lewis Hamilton almost featured in a Tom Cruise movie but that is not the opportunity Hamilton will get. Knowing his influence on his fans, there are many chances that he gets a block buster role soon. While the two seem to have a very close friendship, there was a time last year when reports suggested a rift between the duo, and that too, owing to a possible love triangle!

Back in mid-2023, a third person reportedly entered between the bromance of Cruise and Hamilton. Lewis Hamilton was spotted together with Colombian singer and songwriter Shakira on multiple occasions. He was spotted with the singer at the Miami Grand Prix in 2023 and was reportedly left feeling “giddy” after meeting her. Shakira was also spotted with Lewis Hamilton for dinner with his friends at a restaurant.

While fans were definitely smitten to see the budding romance, perhaps the one that was not was Tom Cruise. The Hollywood star reportedly had a liking towards the singer too, and seeing his friend with the person he reportedly wanted to pursue led many to believe that a long triangle had presented itself. An anonymous source told Radar Online that Shakira and Hamilton’s closeness was reportedly a huge dent to Cruise’s ego. Mainly because of the respect he had for the Mercedes racer and the bond, he thought they shared.

However, with no official statements coming from any of them, all of this can be termed as mere speculation. Nonetheless, it did send shockwaves around the world as one would expect!
