Formula One is the pinnacle of motorsports, and generally, most of the drivers who feature on the grid are from European countries. However, talent comes from all across the world, and in 2021 that is Mexico’s, Sergio Perez.
But many wonder within the F1 community, is Perez the first Mexican driver to feature on the grid? The answer is not, there have been five drivers that have graced the world of F1.

Who were the other Mexican drivers before Sergio Perez?
Perez is undoubtedly one of the best drivers on the Formula One grid. Hence, many wonders who were the other drivers that represented Mexico on the illustrious stage of F1.
There were five drivers who hailed from Mexico that drove in F1. Hector Rebacque competed in the 1980 and 1981 with the Parmalat Racing team. Other drivers included the Rodriguez brothers, Pedro and Ricardo. Both of them drove for the iconic Italian team, Ferrari but first it was Ricardo, and later Pedro followed in his footsteps.

Moises Solana was another driver that hailed from Mexico and competed in F1. He drove for the iconic BRM team, and even got a chance to race in his country but sadly suffered a DNF.
Esteban Manuel Gutiérrez Gutiérrez was another Mexican on the F1 grid and had a permeant seat in F1 until the 2016 season. However, he is currently the reserve and development driver for the Mercedes F1 team.

Who won the last Mexican Grand Prix?
In the 2019 season, it was Lewis Hamilton who claimed victory at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. Now after being absent from last year’s calendar due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Mexican GP is back.
