Ferrari F1 are looking to continue its resurgence streak heading to the inaugural Miami Grand Prix this weekend. The Italian team has been very competitive in the first 4 races and has won 2 of them courtesy of Charles Leclerc. While its main rival Red Bull has already brought its first major upgrade, Ferrari, up still cautious in its approach.

We expected they might bring their first big upgrade of the season in Miami. But Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto has revealed that they will bring some new parts to Miami, but it will not be a major upgrade to their current package.

The Italian team are thinking of the long game as there is a budget cap this season that all teams have to work under. So it becomes crucial for the teams to plan their development of the car very carefully.

Ferrari team boss reveals why they opted not to bring upgrades to Miami

Even if they don’t bring any upgrades to Miami, it is certain that Ferrari will still be one of the 2 fastest cars on the track. Since Formula One will race in Miami for the first time, it makes less sense to bring a major upgrade there.

“We will not have the main one in Miami, but still we have a few new parts on the car. Miami is a high-speed circuit compared to the ones we have had so far. So certainly in terms of downforce, we’ll run something different,” said Binotto.

“We’re still working on the porpoising that, as you can see, is quite visible, certainly more than Red Bull. And in there, there is also a performance to try to get. This is the [focus] for Miami. The main upgrades will come soon after,” said the Ferrari team boss.

It is certainly an interesting approach adopted by the Italian team to develop the F1-75. It is very rare for a team to delete its first major upgrade to the 6th race of the season while all the teams have brought theirs in some form or another.
