Max Verstappen’s P6 is not something that we get to hear every day. Jos Verstappen is definitely unhappy with the results, as he believes his son did the best he could in the RB20. Formula 1 has taken a drastic turn, as our expectations have gone for a toss. While everyone could have sworn Max Verstappen would dominate the season, it does not look like it anymore.

Monaco is a difficult track to overtake, but qualifying P6 is very unlike the Red Bull driver. Before the last GP, he met the record of Ayrton Senna of having eight consecutive pole starts. However, the car does not look like it’s at its best, and even Sergio Perez has been showing the cracks. With all this going on at Red Bull, Max Verstappen is not happy with the situation, and as Toto Wolff continues to pursue him, the 26-year-old might just consider the option.

Max Verstappen is only with Red Bull because they are delivering him the best car on the grid. This year, his championship title is challenged by Charles Leclerc, as the Monegasque is getting awfully close on points. Helmut Marko has been overlooking Verstappen’s experience in Red Bull, and he explained that the problem is that Verstappen no longer trusts the technology. especially that the suspensions are too soft. This is causing the car to bounce a significant bit, and he has to drive around high curbs which puts him behind. He also feels that the engineers are not taking him seriously.

While the first suggestion for a fix would be to increase the height and work on the suspensions, Marko explained why it’s not possible. According to F1-insider, Marko stated, “If we change the height, we lose a lot of downforce. That’s why we are limited in this area. However, we believe that we will still be superior on conventional tracks like Barcelona. If not, then we do indeed have a problem.”

“In Monaco, for example, you could drive hard over the curbs in the simulator without any problems. On the real track, that was no longer the case,” he explained. Constructing a car that is perfect for every track is next to impossible as each track requires something different from the car. In tracks like Monaco, the narrow roads make it hard to overtake and avoid mistakes that will end up with a DNF.

Now that the RB20 is not the fastest car on the grid and Ferrari and McLaren are catching up, there is a chance that Toto Wolff can convince the Dutch driver to join his team.

Toto Wolff knows that he needs a world champion to replace the one he lost when Lewis Hamilton signed with Ferrari. For next year, Mercedes has an empty seat, and who better to get it than the defending champion who has won the last three titles in a row? Max Verstappen is where Wolff has his sights, and despite having a contract with Red Bull until 2028, the Dutch champion can make a switch due to a clause.

So far, Verstappen has stated that he wants to drive with a team that will give him the best car. As long as it was Red Bull, he would stay with the team. However, things have changed, and now other teams are catching up. Mercedes is picking up pace too, and it’s becoming an attractive team for Verstappen to join in 2025.

At Monaco, Max Verstappen could not find the gap to be able to overtake George Russell, although he had a free pit stop during the race. Although Monaco was an “unconventional” circuit, as Marko says, Canada will be a different story. Red Bull is positive that the car will perform well at the Canadian Grand Prix, but if the RB20 fails, it might just be what Verstappen needs to make the shift next year.

That being said, do you think Verstappen will remain loyal to Red Bull or will give in to Toto Wolff’s offers? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
