You can’t win every battle, especially when fighting them on multiple fronts. McLaren won their battle in the F1 world against Alpine. However, the Papaya team fought but lost a similar battle in the world of IndyCar. To rub salt in their wounds, the man who betrayed Zak Brown and Co. has now showcased how unbothered he is by the $23 million lawsuit.
Alex Palou stirred up this controversy in the IndyCar silly season by not honoring his contract with McLaren’s IndyCar team and staying put with his former team, Chip Ganassi Racing. This refusal to join the Woking outfit and staying put right after winning a championship despite putting pen to paper has got him in the firing line with a $23 million lawsuit from McLaren. However, speaking to the Associated Press, he revealed his strong bond with his current boss and how unbothered he is by the drama caused by his decision to stick to his ‘ex-girlfriend’.

Palou admitted his relationship with Ganassi is “great, better than the first.” The 26-year-old added, “I think this drama has made us a lot closer. Why? I don’t know. Now we just have a normal relationship. When you break one time with your girlfriend, then you are even better because you understand each other and all of the previous issues. Suddenly it’s a better relationship.”

Despite the $23 million lawsuit hanging over his head, the reigning IndyCar champion is relaxed which is definitely a positive sign for Chip Ganassi. However, unlike his star driver, the owner did not sit back and take Brown’s criticism lightly.
Chip Ganassi calls Zak Brown out for playing victim in the Alex Palou deal
Many would side with Zak Brown for feeling betrayed by the Spaniard’s actions and last-minute change of heart. However, in his current boss’s opinion, Palou was always their driver and despite McLaren’s best attempts remained their driver. The overall outcome did not change and now Zak Brown should play victim because his poaching efforts did not work.

Ganassi said, “I grew up respecting the McLaren team and their success. The new management does not get my same respect. Alex Palou has been a part of our team and under contract since the 2021 season. It is the interference of that contract from McLaren that began this process and ironically, they are now playing the victim. Simply stated, the position of McLaren IndyCar regarding our driver is inaccurate and wrong; he remains under contract with CGR.”
